Mount Cristo Rey Pilgrimage
+ Photos and video are from the JMJ HF Production Archives+
Amid rain, wind, and cold, Fr. Michael Rodriguez and a group of pilgrims embarked together on a penitential walk to the summit of Mount Cristo Rey located in Sunland Park, New Mexico. During the climb up the mountain preceding Holy Mass, the Holy Rosary and the Stations of the Cross were prayed, along with prayers of reparation offered at the holy shrines built and dedicated to St. Joseph, Our Lady of Fatima, and Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Upon reaching the top of the high mountain, the walk culminated with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass offered in front of the 29 foot statue of Christ the King. Fr. Rodriguez gave a rousing sermon on Our Lady of La Salette and her significance for today; Mary brings light: the Light of Christ and the Light of Heaven. This is what she did at La Salette in 1846. After briefly describing the vision, Father explains the importance of the hammer (malice of sin) and the pincers (reparation for sin by penance, prayer and true contrition). He enumerates six great sins of our times prophesied by Our Lady. He encouraged us to do penance and make reparation for these horrific sins of our day. The rain that fell during Mass and his sermon seemed to be in sync with the "tears" of Our Lady of La Salette.
